7th Annual Cervical Screening
Saturday, Feb. 26th marked the 7th annual Community Cervical Screening for Alliance, in partnership with Rex Healthcare. Through Rex’s generous support and that of community agencies and companies such as Quagen, we were able to provide up to 150 free Pap screenings and community resources to uninsured women throughout Wake County. While results are pending, Alliance is committed to providing follow-up to all participants with abnormal results and truly values the help of the 30+ volunteers that included providers, RN’s, Rex Healthcare’s laboratory team, interpreters and agencies that gave their time for this important cause.

Dental Bus Visits AMM
The Dental Bus visit to AMM in January was a huge success! During the full day clinic from 8:30am to 6pm, volunteer dentists, assistants, and interpreters treated 28 patients, most of whom presented with moderately complex needs requiring x-rays, extractions, and treatment for infection. Alliance is extremely grateful to the following volunteers for donating their Saturday to the care of the uninsured: Dr. Dan Howell, Dr. Brodie Jenkins, Dr. Ryan Galligan, Dr. Patrick Roberson, Ale Guitierrez, Marie Moody, Barbara Ingram, Kimberlie Fowler, Nathalie Grippon, Claudia Sarria, and Chip McGuirt and Bill Bailey of the Baptist Men’s Association. Other supporters responsible for the clinic’s success are Morrison & Lloyd, D.D.S., Dr. Jeff Morrison, and Ultra Dent for their donations of funding and supplies. In addition to care, individual dental hygiene packets were provided for each patient. Alliance also wishes to acknowledge the hard work of their own Leanne Ritter, who organized the entire bus visit!
Alliance is pleased to announce that the Dental Bus is scheduled for a return visit on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Once again we will need volunteer dentists and assistants, as well as funding and supplies. Anyone interested in helping, please contact Leanne at lritter@alliancemedicalministry.org.
AMM's many services would not be possible without our wonderful community partners. Thank you all!!

The Greatest Gifts are Those Unexpected
At Alliance, we take great strides to help our patients and their families in need. This holiday season, we were faced with several families that were in crisis, along with the additional challenge of helping a non-patient and his family of four (including 2 children ages 1 and 3, and their mother). Mike happened to stumble across Alliance two days before Christmas in hopes that he could obtain some shelter for his family who had been sleeping in their car the past two-nights. Because of a set of unfortunate circumstances that fell upon Mike and this family, the staff rallied to help, along with the additional support from Pastor JJ Wilkins, Jr., Elder Jared Wilkens and members of Wake Chapel Church. Collectively, we were able to provide this family with several days of warmth in a nearby Inn, along with food and items to help make the children’s Christmas a special and meaningful one. The uniqueness of this story is that while reaching out to help this family, we remembered that the Holiday gifts are truly about Him and while we acknowledge God’s message in sending his son to us as his beloved gift, he also provides us with special opportunities to understand and practice the true meaning of giving and receiving.
The greatest blessings are the ones we do not ask for or even expect. They appear in a way that forces us to see Him- not the trivial symbolism that Christmas has become. Special thanks to Wake Chapel Church who demonstrated how awesome our gifts can be- to one another and especially to this young family.
