August AMM Pulse: Taking Steps Towards Growth 👟🌱
August 28, 2024
Dear Friend,

Over the last 3 years, AMM has provided $29,980,596 in medical care, medications, and wrap-around services to the most underserved populations in Wake County at little to no cost to our patients. What AMM does is so critical to the fabric of our community. We treat this vulnerable population because they do not have a primary care provider, cannot afford medications, and do not have health insurance or Medicaid.

What makes AMM so unique is that, in addition to being their primary care provider and helping patients obtain the medications they need, AMM also provides behavioral healthcare, and the support of a social worker and registered dietitian – all in one location. Our patients have chronic disease but they also have trauma, and food and housing insecurity – all of which impact their physical health.

We can do this because of 21 years of strong support from the community and for that, we are so appreciative.

Thank you! Have a safe and healthy Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Pete Tannenbaum, AMM Executive Director

Alliance Medical Ministry hosted Wake County's HealthLit4Wake town hall on August 15th in the AMM Sanctuary. The Ask the Doc panel included AMM's Medical Director, Dr. Edwin Burkett, along with three other doctors who discussed essential health screenings and vaccines. Did you know about the health benefits of volunteering? AMM recommends everyone read this article about all the ways volunteering is beneficial to your health. Click here to read.

"Eric S. Kim, a psychology professor at the University of British Columbia Vancouver, said his research has found a connection between volunteering and more positive emotions, less loneliness and more social support.

'These things have downstream effects, such as increased healthy behaviors, as well as increased healthier biological function such as reduced inflammation,' Kim said."

The Million Steps Challenge Award Dinner was held on August 14th to recognize the top three participants with the most steps taken over 5 months. Everyone who participated received a Fitbit to track their steps, and the top three also received a gift card to Fleet Feet to buy a new pair of walking shoes!

At the beginning of the month, the AMM Development and Communications team visited The Women's Center of Wake County to donate supplies and learn more about how they help women in need.
The United Way staff came to learn how AMM helps uninsured patients receive healthcare, talk to the staff, and see how the clinic runs.

Dear AMM Friends on Facebook,

As you anticipate your upcoming birthday, wouldn’t it feel good to focus on helping others rather than "another birthday, another year older”?

Facebook offers the perfect solution to your birthday blues. This year for your birthday, will you consider hosting a Birthday Fundraiser for AMM?

By hosting a Facebook birthday fundraiser, you're not just marking another year of your life; you're giving the gift of health to someone else who needs and deserves it.

Join other supporters who have made a profound impact by linking your special day to AMM’s cause on Facebook. The generosity of you and your Facebook friends could be the reason someone receives essential medical care that changes their life.

Will you pledge your next birthday celebration to support AMM's mission?

With heartfelt thanks,

P.S. Don't forget to share your fundraiser with friends and family! Every share and donation brings us closer to a healthier community for all.
